Once again I am drawn to paint a red poppy field. My style is evolving. It looks looser than before when I compare my first field of red poppies below from 2009. I still use the same technique, and love it, but I make my blooms fuller and varying in size now, I apply more texture to make them pop, and I make my horizons softer to blend more with the sky.My range of color seems to be broader now. I’m less afraid to try unexpected colors.

I enjoy staring up at the sky and studying the clouds so it’s no surprise that painting skies and clouds with many layers and glazes appeals to me. Lately, I’ve been looking up to watch the swallow tail kites that come and visit this time of year.
